To coincide with Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to China, I would like to play my part in improving Sino-British relations with this post about Mr Wok in Hull. However, I realise this is a delicate political situation and will tread carefully.
Mr Wok’s restaurant receives a warm review on the Qype website, from which I quote below. However, please note that these are the views of the customer on the Qype website and imply no endorsement on the part of myself or Mr Tweets of the current Chinese political regime (which isn’t to say that there is anything necessarily wrong or right about that regime).
Prices are reasonable and when i go on my own i always opt for a large portion of boiled rice, curry sauce and chips - cant go wrong for only £2.50!!
The counter also has two large tropical fish tanks, which personaly freaks me out cos i dont particular like fish, but i believe are there to make the customer more relaxed whilst waiting for their food
I think I agree on the whole with the reviewer’s theory about the relaxational qualities of fish tanks. It may seem an odd custom to some of us, but we must respect our differing cultural traditions – and I certainly have no wish to stir up a controversy about Chinese practices, especially ones involving tanks.
OK, I think I’m going to stop there.
Actually, I also have some housekeeping to which to attend. Readers will, I hope, have noticed the rigorous work ethic that underlies this blog. Since launching, I have kept up a rate of one post for every working day, excluding weekends and bank holidays. This is because I believe a blog is a job like any other and I have a contract with you, the reader, that must be honoured.
However, I'd like to book a couple of days off, if I may? Mr Tweets and I need a long weekend to recharge our batteries, so we're planning to go away tomorrow and Friday. Apologies for the short notice. Have a read back over the old posts and think about how far we have come.
See you again on Monday.
