Mr Hot Potato
12 Wolseley Place
Edinburgh EH8 7AD
Mr Hot Potato conveys a very different character to the simpler alternative: Mr Potato. The addition of 'Hot' – as well as referring to the availability of spicy fillings – is also likely to draw you in on a chilly Edinburgh evening.
One reviewer on Yelp writes about Mr Hot Potato in suitably warm terms:
It's thanks to my fellow Yelpers that I finally tried Mr Hot Potato. It was nine thirty one night and I desperately needed something tasty and nutritious to soak up the cocktails I'd just consumed. After wandering the streets with my cocktail partner and turning up empty handed, I pulled out my iPhone, fired up the Yelp app and discovered... Mr Hot Potato was ten minutes away!
I'll be honest, each footstep to the take-away felt like a mile but when we finally arrived, we were greeted with a friendly smile and two baked potatoes that looked as big as the moon. From what I remember, they tasted pretty damn good too.
Baked potatos as big as the moon. Potato poetry.
Other reviewers are generally positive, although some question the ham and pineapple filling, which is described in fairly blue language in one instance.
One anonymous reviewer on Qype confirms the thinking behind this blog by drawing attention to the branding:
The name itself first attracted me to this restaurant. Being a baked potato fanatic it was satisfying to find a variety of filling choices, one being haggis. Each mixture breaks the norm and brings the potatoes to life. If you find yourself on London Road make a stop at Mr Hot Potato – you may even find that the name itself brings a smile to your face.
It brings a smile to mine.
Baked potato and haggis? Why haven't I thought of that? Yum. Although the idea of bringing potatoes to life is a bit spooky.
Will there ever be - or is there now - a Mr Haggis? I do hope so.

There appears to be a dog called Mr Haggis on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mr-Haggis/50586716767 But strictly it falls outside the remit of this blog.
