Mr Resistor
82-84 New King's Road
London SW6 4LT
In honour of National Poetry Day, here is Mr Resistor – a rare example of a 'Mr' shop that contains a perfect rhyme within its name, and can therefore be considered a poem in itself. (One might also count the previously featured Mr Mister, but that is a less satisfactory example of same-word rhyme.)
Mr Tweets whispered to me earlier that a 'Mr Resistor' could be a euphemism for a woman who likes other women! A bit risqué!
In fact, Mr Resistor is a lighting specialist, founded on London's New King's Road in 1968 and now with a presence in Wandsworth, as well as online.
The name comes from the scientific use of the word 'resistor', which refers to any element in an electrical circuit designed to 'resist' the flow of the current, including the filament of a light bulb. (I hope I have explained this correctly.)
The picture shows a woman walking past the shop, paying it no attention. Oh stop it, Mr Tweets!
I commute past Mr Resistor when cycling to work. At night they use the white walls of the upper part of the building for a multi-coloured light show.
