Did you know it’s British Sausage Week? It’s British Sausage Week! 

Unfortunately, and surprisingly, I have been unable to locate a Mr Sausage here in the UK. However, I would like to thank Stuart Watson for bringing this New York establishment to my attention. It looks a fine place. (For some reason, I find it funny to think of people saying ‘sausage’ in a New York accent, although there is nothing inherently funny about it.)

As part of the British Sausage Week festivities, the organisers are running a competition to decide ‘Britain’s Star Sausage’. Strangely, the judge is Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood. (The one with the hair that no gentleman his age should have.) I’m not sure why Craig Revel Horwood has been chosen as the judge, unless they are expecting the sausages to break into a rumba at some point – or perhaps a cha cha chipolata.*

The organisers of British Sausage Week are also running a competition for banger-and-mash sculptures. Current entries include this fine pig by Victoria Buchanan:

Making a pig out of sausages seems to me to be in very poor taste.

And yet, ironically, very tasty.
