After yesterday’s spirited student protests, it seems appropriate to feature Mr Bubbles, a long-standing favourite of students in the Fallowfield area of Manchester. (I have Rachel of the Creative Review web team for bringing him to my attention – thank you!)
Here is a review of Mr Bubbles on the Yelp website:
Mr Bubbles is a quaint stop for students who haven't got a mother or a free cleaning service to hand any more (trust me you miss it when it's gone). Lots of washing machines, lots of dryers, lots of soaps, lots of students staring mundanely into the orbiting underwear.
Students staring mundanely into the orbiting underwear. What a lovely image!
Another reviewer notes the clothing repair service on offer at Mr Bubbles:
Tucked away neatly in the corner of the shop is a table filled with reels of cotton and a sewing machine. Mr. Bubbles not only offers to clean your clothes but also offers to alter them too.
That sounds nice.
The reviewer goes on:
Situated in the centre of Fallowfield, you can pop over to one of the bars and have some lunch whilst you're waiting for your clothes to be cleaned… or altered!
It’s a hard life, isn’t it?
Mr Bubbles has an excellent shopfront, on which he is depicted wearing a hat and bowtie. His front window is full of local advertisements, which must be a useful sideline. There is also a collection bin for used shoes. I don’t know why I said that, as you can see it for yourself.
I imagine Mr Bubbles will experience a spike in business over the next few days, primarily from students trying to get paint off their clothes. If I were him I’d make a sign saying “Vive la revolution! We have 1,400 of them a minute!” Something like that. Or maybe something to do with offering a fast turnaround service – but not as fast as Nick Clegg’s!
Mr Tweets, can you tweet some of these jokes?
Here is a hybrid English / Spanish language outpost of Mr. Bubbles that I snapped a picture of in San Francisco:

This is really quite remarkable - thank you.
I spotted your comment just after posting Arguably the Best Logo I have posted (Mr Furniture).
However, this already throws that decision into some doubt. I will give this some thought.
